We've extended the capabilities of our generic import tool recently. Besides unit-based data, you can also import consumption-based billing data!
Billing metered pay-as-you-go charges
Consumption-based billing is anything that is being charged by usage, and not by a number of reserved seats or activated licenses.
More and more cloud services now offer a pay-as-you-go model. This means usage is metered and you only pay for what you use. A well-known example is the Azure Cloud billing model.
The downside is that it can be time-consuming to bill your clients for their used resources each month.
Our goal is to help you improve this process. You can turn your consumption-based billing data into Autotask Contract charges with only a few clicks using our import tool.
How it works
It couldn't be easier:
Step 1: upload your CSV or Excel file containing the usage charges per resource and customer.
Step 2: map the relevant columns to tell us where the find the right information.
Step 3: Add a markup to the charged amount, if required, and determine the Material Code to use in Autotask.
Step 4: Preview your data and import into Goolash.
Step 5: Your imported data will be available in the new Consumption section. Connect each customer to the right contract in Autotask, and we'll handle everything from there!
It'll be even easier next time you upload an updated version of your file. We store your mapping configuration from the first import.
Upload again and we'll charge the customer automatically on the date you configured.
This is the first version of our Consumption import tool and we're already working on the next batch of improvements.
There is a lot more coming, make sure to keep an eye on this space!
